I've struggled with weight issues my entire life! Okay, maybe not when I was a kid, or even through high-school, but after I started having babies in my early early twenties, I never really took off the weight from each one, except after Karlie, I did Weight Watchers for pregnant and nursing moms and got down to 148. I didn't stay there long though, and slowly the weight has crept back up, with a huge jump after Jeff and I got married, and I am now the heaviest I have ever been, and sadly, Jeff reported to me the other day, so is he!
My mission trip to Africa taught me a lot! Especially about our food. Our food is so saturated with preservatives and hormones, that it just isn't natural anymore. Even our fruits and veggies aren't good for us, like they could be. When I was on the plane from Toledo to Atlanta (our first leg of the trip) I sat next to Denny Freeman. He was telling me how since he and his wife, Sandy, have gone organic, their health is much better and most of their problems, like sugar issues, blood pressure issues, etc. have greatly improved, if not completely!
In Africa, all of their food is "organic", it's natural, no preservatives, no hormones. I felt so good while I was there (except when we were sick from the malaria medicine). But, my body didn't have any aches or pains, felt very energetic, and my brain didn't feel foggy! Some of it had to do with the weather, I'm sure, but I think it was all the organic food we were eating; avocados, cashews, peanuts, pineapple and mango right off the tree, not to mention the chicken and rice. I know the chicken doesn't have all the hormones we put in our meat because they were tiny!
So, before I even got home, I decided I wanted to go organic. Trisha's in-laws, Dave and Nancy, eat organic, and they've both lost a ton of weight just eating organic! And I think it will help my low thyroid issue too! I lost 10 lbs. in Nigeria, plus a couple more since I've been home and I want to continue the weight loss. So, I went to Glen's yesterday and bought organic groceries. We are slowly going weed out our non-organic stuff and replace it with organic. And why is organic more expensive than non-organic?!? That doesn't make any sense to me! They don't have to process it as much, but it costs more...go figure! Anyway, Glen's has a whole isle of organic food, which made shopping easier! I got organic milk too, which Trisha said is really yummy! I haven't tried it yet because we still had 1/2 gallon of Spartan milk to use up. I also got some organic fruits and veggies, like carrots, onions, and bananas. I also got some non-organic fruit like grapes and watermelon, because they didn't have those in organic. But, I figure if I wash them, it is better than eating a bunch of junk! I also got some organic baking stuff, like Bisquick, some Kettle potatoe chips and some organic tortilla chips, organic salsa, and organic sugar. I got Spartan brand cottage cheese and cream cheese, which don't have growth hormones added!
I will keep you posted on the weight loss and any other exciting stuff I come across in the organic area!
